‘a travel agent for the soul’
When I say ‘I meet clients where they are’, this means that we start where the client wants to start.
Some people are put off going to therapy for years (even decades) because they expect to *have to* go back over their past, to return to their childhood, to ‘drag up old stuff’. It may be too painful to uncover, or there’s debilitating stuck-ness, shame, guilt, or grief. And clients may feel it’ll take too long.
In fact, the ‘old stuff’ tends to turn up when it needs to, when a relationship of trust is established, and when the client is ready to look at it. It might not turn up at all, or it might push its way to the forefront of one or more sessions.. Everyone’s unique, everyone’s different; there’s no ‘right or wrong’ way of doing this.
That’s one of the many joys of working with the Bach Flower Remedies – a client receives a bespoke bottle of Remedies which are right for them at this particular time.
And it’s never too late to start. Nor too early – there is comfort, companionship, and change available to clients regardless of age and stage.
So when I was explaining that I meet clients where they are, and work with them to get them to where they want to be, the response was “What? Like a travel agent? *pause* A travel agent for the soul”.
I’ll take that. With great pleasure.
